You may be on the fence with even deciding if therapy can be right for you. Plus, I know there can be so many options. I want to make this easy, and I want to help! Below are some answers to some common questions you might have.

How long do therapy sessions typically last?

Therapy sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length. I find this length allows both of us to dive deep into the issues at hand while also respecting your time.

What happens during the first therapy session?

The first session is a space for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss your expectations for therapy, identify your goals, and outline a treatment plan tailored to your needs. It's also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process.

How do I know if I really need therapy?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected, these might be signs that counseling could be beneficial for you. The decision to seek therapy is a personal one and often comes when you feel you're at a crossroads. If you're unsure, I offer a non-judgmental space to explore whether therapy is the right step for you.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

The frequency of sessions will depend on your specific needs and the plan we develop together. Most of my clients benefit from weekly sessions to work toward their goals at a good pace.

How long will I need to come to therapy?

The duration of your counseling journey is tailored to your unique needs and the goals we establish together. Think of therapy as a sacred space for personal growth; we'll consistently evaluate your progress to ensure you're on the right path. Many of my clients opt for deep, transformative work and stay with me for six months or longer, others have found ongoing sessions over several years beneficial for personal and relational growth.

How much do sessions cost?

The fee for a 60-minute therapy session is $250. Additional services and longer sessions have different rates, which we can discuss in detail. I understand that finances can sometimes be a barrier to accessing therapy, so I offer some of my available time slots to clients needing sliding fees on a case-by-case basis under certain circumstances. Please feel free to discuss your situation with me.

Are sessions covered by my insurance?

I would be considered an out-of-network provider and do not directly accept insurance. Many insurance plans can offer reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services. I can provide you with receipts for services rendered, which you can then submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

How do I seek reimbursement from my insurance company?

As an out-of-network provider, I can supply you with detailed receipts suitable for insurance reimbursement. Here are some steps to guide you through the process:

1) Contact Your Insurance Provider: Before starting therapy, it's advisable to contact your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

2) Ask the Right Questions: Find out what percentage of the fee they will reimburse, the number of sessions they cover, and if there are any deductibles you need to meet.

3) Get Pre-Authorization: Some insurance companies require pre-authorization before you begin therapy. Make sure to complete any necessary paperwork.

4) Submit Claims: After each session, I will provide you with a detailed receipt, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Make sure to keep copies for your records.

5) Follow Up: It's a good idea to follow up with your insurance company to ensure your claim is being processed and to find out when you can expect reimbursement.

By following these steps, you can navigate the reimbursement process more smoothly.

Do you have early morning, evening, and weekend appointments available?

Absolutely, I get that NYC life is always on the go. That's why I offer flexible scheduling options, including early mornings and evenings, to fit into your busy schedule. Please note, however, that weekend appointments are currently not available.

Where do sessions take place?

All my sessions are conducted virtually through secure and HIPAA-compliant platforms like Google Meet or TherapyNotes.

Who do you work with?

I specialize in working with individuals, particularly those in the LGBTQ+ community, who are grappling with issues related to identity, relationships, career, trauma and spirituality. Because I provide online therapy, I am available to work with anyone located in New York State and Connecticut.

What if I am not a part of the LGBTQ community, will you still work with me?

Of course! Being a member of the LGBTQ community myself, I want to espouse that value of inclusivity, and I know that many of us need a safe place to heal. You do not need to be a part of the queer community for me to work with you. If you are sensing that I would be a good fit for working with you, do not hesitate to schedule that 15-minute consultation, and we can talk. What is important to me is if my skill sets and passions, what I’m good at, matches your need. If not, I’ll help you find someone who can help.

What if therapy isn't working?

If you or I feel that the therapy isn't yielding the desired outcomes, we can discuss alternative treatment options or referrals. Your well-being is my primary concern, and I'm committed to helping you find the best path to healing.

I know it can feel like a big step to call a therapist, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15-minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person.
